I've seen them before. And I sense your attempt to kindle a particular social change; to focus on a common humanity that reflects a larger movement to affirm the Family of Man. I find your photographic style unsettling and evocative. Yet, I cannot find an instinctive voice in your philosophy. I hope these photos will never land in the hands of anti-immigration groups to contrast images of the immigrants' perseverance and ingenuity with what they believed to be the indolence of immigrants.

margaret: i found their pose unsettling and evocative as well. maybe my photography is then merely a mirror of the representation of reality. but what is representation? does that not involve an interruption in reality, and intrusion into life? is it then natural to look natural before the camera? the photo here shows a tension herein, where the musicians negotiate the conflict between being themselves and posturing themselves for a natural representation. judith: maybe he thought i wanted his guitar. it is a nice guitar. |
